Recovering Your Life

If you have found your way to this web site then it is highly likely that you have encountered some form of abuse in your life.
Where you have come from is familiar territory to so many survivors, but it's time to embark on a new journey together.
This site is like a map - not the old, out of date one that shows us where we have come from, but a new, different one that shows us where we might go.
Recovery is a journey - let's embark on it together and see where it takes us.

Our Manifesto

The first and foremost principle that under-girds Recovering Your Life is the idea that recovery is a possibility for all people in some way. That people may have endured terrible trauma and horrendous experiences but do not have to be relegated to the scrap heap, are not broken beyond repair and fundamentally can have hope for a new day.

Recovering Your Life is not a place for platitudes and sympathy. It is a place where we work out what needs to be done to be okay. It is forward focused, reality based, pragmatic and honest.

In this place you will see recovery as an incredibly dynamic process. One day you will happily identify as a victim and the next want to shake that label off and move forwards.

You may have heard it said that your life has been stolen from you, that this trauma has ruined your life, but at Recovering Your Life you will not hear those messages. Instead we focus on the simple idea that you cannot control the hand that was dealt you, but you are the only one who can decide how to play that hand and our mission is to help you play that hand well.

People who share the urgent desire to recover their life will not only find a source of information and ideas here, but will find a community of like-minded people – a tribe – a family of those who have set recovery as the intention of their lives. If this is you, you belong here. If this is who you hope to be, you belong here. If this is who you plan to be, you belong here. If you don’t believe you can recover, you belong here even more.
You owe it to yourself to be part of this.
